NOTD: Purple/pink ruffian mani

You can also read this post in both Dutch and English on my main blog here:

I’m actually not all that enthusiastic about ruffian manis. I’ve got no idea why, it’s simply not a favourite style of mine. However, it is a good choice for those days that I come home from work with barely any nail polish left on my nails, and I only have about an hour to make them look decent again. It only needs three layers (okay, and maybe a layer of basecoat and topcoat), and it’s also not difficult at all. A perfect NOTD for when you’re in a hurry!

I started out with the colour Daredevil by Sinful Colors. A very pretty pink nail polish that has a purple hint to it in the right light. I think it’s beautiful, but I don’t really know what to think of the finish. It’s not really shiny, yet not matte either. Kind of like it doesn’t know what it wants to be. Which, of course, is easily solved by applying a topcoat. The colour itself is nice and vibrant.

The drying time isn’t very short, but not very long either. Also, the formula is good. Sinful Colors has thin brushes, which are flexible and have a nice shape to work with.

For the second colour, I used a nail polish by Essence. Seeing as it’s easiest to do a ruffian mani with a wide brush, I wanted to use a brand that has such wide brushes. That way, all there is to be done is to make a stripe, while it’s way more difficult to get a nice symmetrical shape when using a thin brush. As you can probably tell from the photos, it didn’t turn out perfectly on my nails. Ah well, it looks fine from a distance 😉

The nail polish I used is called Absolutely Blue. I think it’s more of a lavender colour. In any case, I do really love this colour. Also, the nail polish covers great in one thick layer, which is is also nice for this manicure.

Seeing as I was in a hurry (and also because I’ve almost run out of topcoat) I didn’t use a topcoat for this look. The mani does last for a shorter time without one, so I would actually recommend using one. I did use a base coat, by the way, because I don’t know if the pink polish wouldn’t stain my nails otherwise. In any case, it’s a quick and easy look, in only took me about 10 minutes. Which was mostly drying time 😉
